Montana is 145,509 square miles with just over a million residents. Namibia is 318, 261 square miles with 2.53 million citizens. Both are known for expansive deserts, one high and cold and one low and hot. Both are known for their wildlife both in diversity and in real numbers. Although, gotta brag a little, Montana has Namibia beat on variety of hunt able species. Most of all, what makes both places pleasant is the people. Polite, helpful country people (even in the cities) that take care of one another along with the visitor.

The people make Namibia a wonderful first African country to hunt. English is the official language. The roads are great. And with a Craig Boddington Endorsed Outfitter the hunting is guaranteed to be as promised. The landscape makes it an excellent choice for someone that’s hunted other African countries. You’ll see distinctive landscapes found nowhere else. The Namib Desert will awaken the most jaded world traveler with its expansive, surreal beauty.

Craig’s “Quest for the 100 Best” led him to invite some of his oldest friends into Craig Boddington Endorsed Outfitters. It’s a collection of legendary outfitters that are each a blend of fun and excellent manners you’ll come to remember Namibia for. Names like Burchell, Traut, de Bod, Muller and Lamprecht populate the Namibia search on our website. Legends at the height of their game with the next generations training to follow in their ancestor’s footsteps.

When people call me and ask, “Which of your Namibian outfitters should I book with?” I’ll ask them a few questions about who is in their party and what type of experience they hope to have. Sometimes I have a suggestion. But, I always tell them to contact all of them and have a chat. Choose based on the personality you enjoy the most. You’ll be side by side with them for a very important couple of weeks. You might as well enjoy it.

It’s wonderful to see the next generation prepared to carry on these legacies. Dirk de Bod Safaris has son Dirkie. A quick mind with a ready smile and a little quieter than his dad Dirk. Likely because Dirk has a lot to say. At Hunters Namibia Safaris its son Hanns Louis Lamprecht and his beautiful wife … They carry on the humor and excellence of the patriarch Jofe and the hospitality of Marina. The Burchell clan, for which a few species are named, is successful enough they spawned Burchell-Wolf Safaris while continuing to operate Frontier Safaris. Scot and his wife Katie operate Burchell Wolf. Barry is still the head honcho at Frontier but son Fred is steadily handling more of the operation. The whole bunch is filled with friendly good humor. Jamy Traut Safaris continues to be led by Jamy who is in the prime of his career. Dawid Muller, probably my personal favorite because he’s got a quiet but mischievous demeanor. You really have to watch his face to know what he’s thinking. Like most quiet people, when he does talk, it matters.

If I had to leave Montana, Namibia would be the first place I’d consider. I know I’d have great friends there and wouldn’t have to adjust my pace. I hope Namibia is on your short list for your next hunt.
