BEYOND THE CROSS-HAIRS: UNITING HUNTING & CONSERVATION

When you “Hunt for Change”, you're providing an invaluable financial contribution to conservation and the livelihood of our people; ensuring a purposeful adventure matched only by the thrill of the chase. Our ultimate goal is to witness a flourishing and safe rhino population, unshackled from the severe threat of extinction.

The proceeds from your safari safeguards the future of one of the world's most endangered species: The Southern White Rhino. At Game Trackers Africa - Rockwood Conservation, we don't breed to hunt; we hunt to protect.

The Game Trackers Africa - Rockwood Conservation Way:

•Every activity hosted at Rockwood contributes to rhino conservation

•Selective rhino hunting provides the financial means to care for the entire population

•Our thriving population of more than 350 white rhino is a testament of our highly successful and progressive approach to conservation, having resulted in an almost 10-year span of no poaching incidents – the biggest rhino success story in this modern day era.

Unwind and relax in the comfort of our 5-star safari lodge featuring four private luxury villas. Taste your way through our menu of delicious local cuisine featuring sumptuous venison dishes and world-renowned South African wines, while soaking up the warm hospitality of our courteous, friendly staff or relax in our spa, work-out in the gym, or cool off in the swimming pool.

After a hard day’s hunt, few things beats a hot shower, a cold drink of your choice and conversations around heart-warming camp fires underneath the star-studded sky. Rockwood has the ideal combination of family-friendly luxury facilities and wildlife encounters, and we pride ourselves on meeting and exceeding your expectations.

YOU BE THE JUDGE

Game Trackers Africa - Rockwood Conservation is often confronted with the question – “why such a difference in price between you and most of the market?”  The answer is short – “a quality experience, age and age related trophy quality”!   We at GTARC do not hunt bulls that are younger than 12 years old, preferably 15 years and older.  This policy guarantees our clients on a continuous basis of superior trophy quality exceeding the minimum requirements for SCI medal qualification. The focus is on mature and old bulls that have been used in our conservation program and/or bulls which will not contribute towards our genetic diversity objectives.

Age estimation on Rhino is not easy, however a good starting point is to look at some external visual indicators:

  • Body size – shoulder height min 5 foot;
  • Size of the hump;
  • Head size; the size/ length relationship between the front and back horn;
  • The gap between front and back horn basis’s – the smaller the gap, the older;
  • The circumference of the both horn basis’s and then how the back horn is shaped - worn.

DO THE RIGHT THING- LETS PRACTICE WHAT WE PREACH AND EDUCATE THE IGNORANT –

“DO NOT HUNT IMMATURE ANIMALS.”

“The Bitterness of Poor Quality Remains Long after the Sweetness of a Low Price Is Forgotten.”

Young Bull - Max 6 years Old
Mature Bull – 10 years plus
